"Imagine…
…yourself in the wilderness of Scandinavia. It’s mid-winter and a thick blanket of snow is covering the landscape. With the last rays of sunlight you are returning to your camp from a day that gifted you with many mysteries. The tracks you were following were not made by deer as you had assumed, and you are still unclear as to who left them. You memorized every detail of the track so that through your story your clan will know what’s going on around camp. At the same time you are hoping for some clue to the puzzle from the more experienced clan members.
A cold breeze pulls you out of your thoughts as you approach camp and you are thankful for the warm fire and company that’s waiting for you. As the smell of a roasted hare rises to your nose your belly rejoices – yet you begin to feel uncomfortable. When you checked your trap lines today they were all empty.
Your clanmates welcome you by the crackling fire and serve you a hot, tasty meal. There is much laughter and storytelling around you but you find yourself merely staring ahead gloomily. Barbara, who is being applauded for catching her first hare today, notices your mood. When she asks you what’s wrong anger wells up inside you. You muster all your courage and express it to her – and the moment the words leave your lips you realize the exact pattern that your dream last night pointed out: Behind your anger is the fear of not being worthy, of not being loved. By comparing and judging yourself you are making yourself unhappy!
As you share that awareness with your circle you get understanding and encouraging nods. You know that you are not alone in your pattern, that all of you are working together to help each other establish healthier patterns. And you know that this is the greatest gift you can give each other and yourself.”
